Location of the tomb of King Tut - The Valley of the Kings
The Valley of the Kings is the site where many of the famous Pharaohs of Ancient Egypt of the 18th Dynasty were buried. Ravaged by tomb robbers the most famous of all the tombs was that of the boy King Tut, Tutankhamun. The Valley of the Kings is a necropolis. A necropolis is defined as a large cemetery or burial place near the sites of the centers of ancient civilizations. The Valley of the Kings necropolis was located near the Ancient Egyptian city of Thebes which is now called Luxor. Thebes was the capital of the Ancient Egyptian dynasties during the period of the New Kingdom and was located on the eastern bank of the River Nile and was the centre of worship for the god Amun. Opposite Thebes, on the Western bank of the Nile, is where the Valley of the Kings and the tomb of King Tut is located. The location is set in the area of the Sacred Theban mountain which was revered as the sacred land of the Kingdom of the god Osiris, the Lord of the Afterlife. The Theban Peak is a natural pyramid-shaped rock which overlooks the Valley of the Kings and this must have contributed to the reasons why this area was chosen as the royal necropolis.

Location of the tomb of King Tut - Security
The fabulous treasures buried inside the tomb of King Tut were highly tempting to potential tomb robbers. The were grave warnings which were carved into tomb hieroglyphics relating to the punishments in the afterlife which would be enacted by the gods and the occupants of the tombs on tomb robbers which led to the various legends relating to the Curses of the Pharaohs. The location of King Tut's tomb was kept a close secret. The penalties for grave robbers were severe. The tomb of Tutankhamun was bolted and sealed. His tomb contained a series of secret burial chambers which were difficult to access and hidden from sight. The entrance passage leading to the tomb was blocked with a huge stone slab and mounds of rubble. It was also believed that the Ancient Egyptians used poison in the coatings of tombs or in powders which were released into the air when stones were disturbed. This has not been proved in the case of the tomb of King Tut but this belief once again gives credibility to some of the ancient curses. Other security measures surrounding the Tomb of Tutankhamun included  the guarding of the tomb by necropolis guards.
